Knowing how to troubleshoot some of the most common problems with ice makers can help get yours up and running as soon as possible again. Aviv Appliances is here to help you troubleshoot some of the most common ice maker problems.
Common Ice Maker Issues & How to Troubleshoot Them
There are several problems that you can run into with your ice maker. Knowing how to solve them is key in getting your ice maker back up and running as soon as possible.
Not Working at All
There are a few problems that can lead to your ice maker not working at all.
– Clogged Water Filter: As it removes contaminates from the water, it can get clogged. Change your water filter on a regular schedule to avoid this problem.
– Defective Water Inlet Valve: Another problem is the water inlet valve. This valve opens and closes to feed water to the ice maker. Check the water pressure to the valve and if it is less than 20 psi, you have a problem.
– Frozen Inlet Tube: A frozen water line isn’t going to give you the water you need to have ice. Accessing this part of the ice maker will require completely dismantling the ice maker from the fridge and will more than likely require professional help.
Too Much Ice
You don’t want your ice maker to produce too much ice either. These are some of the problems you may be experiencing:
– Ice Bin Position: If the ice bin isn’t in the right spot, the ice may be falling outside of the bucket. Checking its location can help solve this problem.
– Broken Control Arm: The control arm rests on the top or side of the ice bin. Making sure that it is fully attached and doesn’t have any broken pieces help you know if this is the problem.
Icemaker is Leaking
Let’s explore some of the reasons your icemaker could be leaking.
– Jamming: Sometimes, ice can form clumps that can cause the icemaker to jam. Using a spatula or spoon with a long handle can help break up these large clumps.
– Unlevel Refrigerator: If your refrigerator isn’t level, it can cause leaking problems. Using a level, make sure the refrigerator doesn’t need to be adjusted.
– Misaligned Fill Valve & Cup: It is important to locate the fill cup and make sure it is perfectly aligned so you don’t run into leaking issues.
